The oldest living Grand Rapids police retiree has died at age 95.
Vincent Vicarie retired as a detective sergeant in 1979 after 30 years with the police department. The city says he died on Tuesday, just a few weeks before his 96th birthday.
Vicarie served in World War II, became a police officer and then served again during the Korean War.
In a statement, the Grand Rapids department says other officers fondly recalled his dedication to his job - and the fact that he never lost his New York accent.
